Everyday Sustainability

Sustainability is one of topics that Arla values very highly. We all owe it to each other and our surroundings to act as responsibly and thoughtfully as we can and to consider our own impact, wherever we are.
So if you feel like being a bit more eco-active this summer, here are some suggestions for you:

With the summer fast approaching, many of us are making plans, booking holidays and looking forward to some much needed leisure time outside the office. Having all of that in mind, it’s sometimes easy to overlook the other important topics and issues, that are just as relevant in the summer as any other time. Sustainability is one of those topics –one that Arla values very highly. We all owe it to each other and our surroundings to act as responsibly and thoughtfully as we can and to consider our own impact, wherever we are.

Knowing exactly how to act sustainably can often be quite tricky, however. In our day-to-day lives we can easily get distracted by the bustle of other plans and circumstances. Because of this, we would like to share some quick and easy sustainability tips that can be valuable in almost all areas of daily life. So if you feel like being a bit more eco-active this summer, here are some suggestions for you:

1: Choose the train, bus or bicycle instead of the car

If you would like to make a major change to your own ecological blueprint this summer, maybe switching the car for public transport options, a bicycle, or even plain old walking is for you? Not only is this a power move for sustainable transportation, it’s also better for your health!

2: Avoid plastics

One great way to improve your personal sustainability is being mindful of your consumption habits, in particular in relation to plastics. Minimizing one’s use of plastics by avoiding products packaged in it, by bringing a reusable bag to the supermarket or by investing in reusable drinking bottles, for example, can make a real difference for the environment, reduce waste and even help preserve ocean wildlife. With a small change to your shopping habits, you can make a huge difference for our Planet.

3: Minimize food waste

Making sure to only buy what you need and be mindful of your dinners’ carbon footprints, you can easily improve your personal sustainability.

4: Reuse and donate clothes

Doing your part in minimizing the demand for clothes production makes a big difference for the environment, with the bonus of helping other people. Also, consider mending clothes with small holes or imperfections instead of throwing them out.

Those were some of the quick and easy ways to be more sustainable this summer, and we hope they inspired you to think of some methods of your own! Arla takes pride in its sustainability policy and we try to let that shine through in our personal lives as well.

Remember that even the biggest changes start with the smallest steps.

Have a great summer!
